Detroit Diesel Corporation Announces Appointments
    DETROIT, Nov. 15 -- Charles (Chip) G. McClure, President and
CEO of Detroit Diesel Corporation , announced the appointment today
of Robert (Randy) R. Allran, currently Executive Vice President of Operations,
to Executive Vice President of Engineering and Operations effective January
2000.  Allran will assume the Engineering responsibilities currently held by
David F. Merrion.
    Mr. Allran led DDC's manufacturing, purchasing and parts distribution
operations since DDC was formed in 1988.  Prior to that, he was Director of
Diesel Engineering for Detroit Diesel-Allison and held various positions with
General Motors Corporation with responsibilities in both diesel engine and gas
turbine engineering.
    David F. Merrion, after 45 years of combined service with General Motors
Corporation and Detroit Diesel Corporation, recently announced his retirement
from Executive Vice President of Engineering effective year-end.  Mr. Merrion
is well known as a leader in Engineering activities, such as the Society of
Automotive Engineers and the Engine Manufacturers Association.  He will be
available to the company as a consultant on such subjects as emissions and new
propulsion technology.

engineering background, he has the capability to continue to strengthen
Detroit Diesel's competitiveness in both new and existing markets," said
McClure.  "We also congratulate Dave Merrion on his retirement and know that
he will maintain an active involvement in the field of diesel engines."
