DaimlerChrysler's Chief Executive is Named '1999 Manager of the Year' By Stark's Truck & Off-Highway LedgerCHICAGO, Nov. 15 -- DaimlerChrysler AG Co-Chairman Robert J. Eaton today was selected '1999 Manager of the Year' by Stark's Truck & Off-Highway Ledger ( http://www.starks-news.com ) for exceptional financial management of automotive assets. It is the second time in four years that the DaimlerChrysler executive is singled out by the respected business publication for the citation. "Through the 1998 merger of the former Daimler-Benz AG of Germany and Chrysler Corp., the company unsurprisingly continues to reap record profits and higher margins from record production volume at an increased number of assembly plants," the business journal explained. "Vehicular production capacity use has soared more than 100 per cent in 1999 and 1998... DaimlerChrysler Corp. has converted two highly visible liabilities into performing assets. It already has distanced itself from high fixed costs and continues to consistently beat competition to the marketplace with new cars and trucks. The vehicles take less time to develop and require lower financial investment," it added. Stark's Truck & Off-Highway Ledger concluded, "The merger of Chrysler and Daimler-Benz, under Eaton's watch, has successfully established high standards for its competitors in the world car and truck-making business. It's little surprise that Mr. Eaton is drawing close to a goal of bench-marking DaimlerChrysler as the 'number one transportation company' in the global marketplace."
