Superior Industries Selects Site for a Second Aluminum Wheel Manufacturing Facility in Mexico
VAN NUYS, Calif.--Nov. 11, 1999--Superior Industries International Inc. Thursday announced that it has selected a site for a new aluminum road wheel production facility near its existing facility in Chihuahua. When completed next year, the new facility will cost approximately $50 million and will be the most technologically advanced state-of-the-art manufacturing plant. This will be the company's ninth wheel facility making Superior by far the largest manufacturer of aluminum wheels in the world.
"Unit shipments of Superior's aluminum road wheels to original equipment manufacturers (OEM) continue at a record pace. Based on the more than $300 million in OEM aluminum wheel contracts recently announced, including new and replacement orders, we need additional capacity to keep up with demand. The company's plans to expand three of its existing facilities, in addition to this new plant in Mexico, will be funded entirely from internal cash," a spokesman said.
"A key to our success over the years has been Superior's willingness to invest in state-of-the-art facilities and equipment to ensure that we always deliver the highest quality products built to exacting specifications, on time and on budget. Our decision to invest in these new facilities in Mexico underscores our continued commitment to industry leadership," the spokesman added.
