Recently-Won Maruti Udyog HVAC Business Allows Delphi to Continue Expanding Profile in IndiaLOCKPORT, N.Y., Nov. 10 -- Delphi Automotive Systems continues to expand its presence in India, recently winning a new contract to supply heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems to the country's largest automaker. Through its operation in the Greater Noida District, Delphi's Harrison Thermal division will assemble HVAC units for Maruti Udyog Limited, which has approximately 70 percent of India's automotive market share. The contract, valued at USD$40 million over five years, supports the assembly of the Maruti Zen, the company's one-liter mini-car. Delphi is scheduled to begin production in the fourth quarter of 2000. "Becoming a partner in the success of a strong, demanding industry leader like Maruti is absolutely critical to growing our business in India," said Jeffrey A. Day, director of Asia Pacific operations, Delphi Harrison Thermal Systems. "It also reaffirms our commitment to providing comprehensive local support for all of our customers in the Asia Pacific region, and illustrates our ability to offer world class air conditioning solutions to a wide variety of global customers." The HVAC assemblies will come from the division's first wholly owned operation in the Asia Pacific region. Delphi will also supply air-conditioning compressors as well as condensers.
