Daewoo Motors Reduces Production Lead Time and Cost With Digital Manufacturing Solutions From Deneb
SEOUL, Korea--Nov. 10, 1999--In an effort to reduce production lead time and cost, Daewoo Motors has invested in Deneb Robotics' Digital Manufacturing suite of solutions, including Deneb/UltraSpot(TM), Deneb/IGRIP(R), Deneb/Virtual NC(R) and Deneb/QUEST(R). This partnership occurred after one year of benchmark testing against all major simulation companies. Deneb, a Dassault Systemes company (Nasdaq : DASTY) was selected for both their integrated software products and their vision for the extended Digital Enterprise.Daewoo Motors has been using CATIA solutions from Dassault Systemes since 1984 and has expanded their CATIA use to include Digital Mock-Up (DMU). When the Digital Manufacturing capabilities from Deneb are combined with the solid model design capabilities of CATIA, it provides Daewoo Motors a seamless environment for integrated product and process development.
"Digital Manufacturing is a world-wide trend, and is necessary to optimize manufacturing processes. Since its Robot Simulation System introduction in 1994, Daewoo has expanded Digital Manufacturing to Robot Simulation, Painting Simulation, Assembly Simulation, Virtual NC Simulation and Factory Simulation (line simulation)" states Young-kook Lee, Managing Director, Production Engineering Center, Daewoo Motors Xo. "We also use CATIA and Deneb not only in the domestic production site, but also in the main facilities of overseas operations for high quality design and manufacturing. Daewoo Motors expects to reduce time and money as well as correct the fault in design and manufacturing process with Deneb Solutions".
The Deneb off-line programming (OLP) solution is now fully implemented for spot welding robots in the Daewoo Ichon plant. In fact, this pre-simulation strategy has been expanded to the whole factory, including applications such as press, body, painting assembly and casting.
"Deneb's mission is to help customers build the Digital Enterprise. We excel at giving them the ability to concurrently define, simulate and optimize products, manufacturing processes, plant definitions and product operations," states Rakesh Mahajan, Chief Executive Officer of Deneb Robotics. "The largest automotive enterprises in the world, and their suppliers, use Deneb solutions to ensure design for manufacturability, assembly and maintenance".
Daewoo Motor Company's primary focus is on motor vehicle manufacturing, but is also heavily involved in trading, construction, shipbuilding, the manufacturing of heavy equipment, machine tools, telecommunications equipment, consumer electronics, home appliances, financial management, telecommunications services, and hotel operations. Each company of Daewoo is bound by the collective faith in the Daewoo Spirit and by the common goal to successfully bring about globalization for mutual prosperity, which represents the essence of Daewoo's management philosophy. This unity has created a natural synergy between each independent Daewoo Company, which collectively generated total sales of over U.S.$72 billion in 1997.
Dassault Systemes S.A. is the premier global software developer for the CAD/CAM/CAE/PDM II market, providing companies with e-business solutions to implement their digital enterprise, thus creating and simulating the entire product life cycle from initial concept to product in service. CATIA, ENOVIA and DENEB solutions support industry-specific business processes to help unleash creativity and innovation, reduce development cycle time, improve quality, competitiveness and shareholder value: CATIA supports the digital product definition and simulation, DENEB provides solutions to define and simulate digital manufacturing processes and ENOVIA delivers enterprise solutions that manage a comprehensive, collaborative and distributed model of the digital product, processes and resources. The combined integration creates the Digital Product life cycle Pipeline, supporting re-use of corporate knowledge. SolidWorks and Smart Solutions, as Dassault Systemes companies, offer respectively 3D design-centric and TeamPDM software solutions based on Windows.
