Kiran M. Patel, CFO For Cummins Engine Company, Appointed Executive Vice President

    COLUMBUS, Ind.--Nov. 5, 1999--The Board of Directors of Cummins Engine Company, Inc. has appointed Kiran M. Patel Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Cummins. Patel, who will report directly to the Chairman and CEO, will continue to be responsible for all aspects of Cummins' financial functions and information technology.
    "As a 25 year Cummins veteran, including the past three years as CFO, Kiran is a valuable member of Cummins' senior management team," said Tim Solso, President and COO of Cummins. "I am pleased that the Board has appointed him Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, joining Joe Loughrey, Executive Vice President and President - Engine Business, and Jack Edwards, Executive Vice President and President - Power Generation, with that distinction."
    Patel, 51, joined Cummins' filtration subsidiary, Fleetguard, in 1973 as Finance Manager. In 1981, he was appointed General Manager, Fuel Systems -- Diesel Recon and held that position until 1985, when he became Director of Finance for the Components Group. He was named Executive Director - Strategic Planning in 1987, and President of Cummins' Atlas subsidiary in 1988. In 1990, he moved to Brazil as President of CUMBRASIL. In 1993, he went back to Fleetguard as President, a position he held until 1996, when he was appointed Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Cummins.
    Patel holds a B.S. degree in electrical engineering and an M.B.A. in finance from the University of Tennessee. Patel, a certified public accountant, is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants.
    He is a member of the Dean's Advisory Council for the University of Tennessee Business School, the Financial Executive Institute, the Columbus (IN) Economic Development Board, and the Cummins Engine Foundation.
