Navistar Names New VP for Sales and Distribution for Export Markets

Navistar Names New Vice President for Sales and Distribution for Mexico, Brazil and Other Export MarketsCHICAGO, Nov. 3 -- Navistar International Corporation , producer of International(R) brand trucks, buses and engines, today announced that Jose Manuel Canal has been named to the newly created position of vice president, sales and distribution, for Mexico, Brazil and export. Canal, 46, had been managing director, Mexico. In his new position, he will lead a realigned sales and distribution organization, responsible for sales outside of the U.S. and Canada. The company's international operations formerly were the under the direction of Dennis Webb, recently promoted to group vice president and general manager of the company's heavy vehicle center. According to Steve Keate, president of Navistar's Truck Group, the realignment will improve support to the company's business in Mexico, Brazil and other export markets by expanding the accountabilities of several organizations. The company's truck vehicle centers and parts business center will now be responsible for marketing and product management on a worldwide basis. Canal will report directly to Keate. "Through this integration we will improve the infrastructure which supports our business and we will leverage the introduction of our new truck products into worldwide markets," Keate said. "Jose brings a perspective and influence that will enhance our efforts to expand the International(R) brand in markets around the world." As managing director, Mexico, Canal was responsible for staffing at the company's Mexican subsidiary, building a strong dealer organization, and leading the implementation of business initiatives to meet local market needs. Within three years of operation, Navistar has captured 20 percent of the market. Prior to joining Navistar, Canal had been commercial and marketing director at Dina Camiones and Autobuses in Mexico City. He has also held positions in engineering, manufacturing, sales, and general management at other companies in Mexico. Navistar International Corporation, headquartered in Chicago, is a leading producer of heavy and medium trucks and school buses and mid-range diesel engines sold under the International brand. The company is also a private label designer and manufacturer of diesel engines for the truck and van markets. Sales and revenues in fiscal 1998 totaled $7.9 billion.
