Toyota Reports Best-Ever October And Seventh Consecutive Monthly Sales RecordTORRANCE, Calif., Nov. 2 -- Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc., today reported best-ever October sales of 131,439 vehicles, an increase of 12.6 percent over last October, marking Toyota's seventh-consecutive month of record-setting sales. Calendar-year-to-date (CYTD) sales total 1,232,991, an increase of 114,590 units, or 10.7 percent, compared to the same period last year. "Industry sales were supposed to spring-forward ... then fall-back, but it just hasn't happened," said Jim Press, TMS executive vice-president. "A fourth-quarter kick-off like this bodes well for a record-breaking year." Both TMS sales divisions broke October sales marks previously set last year. The Toyota Division recorded best-ever sales of 115,429 units, up 12.2 percent over last October. The Lexus Division posted best-ever October sales of 16,010, up 15.2 percent over the previous mark. The Toyota Division posted best-ever October passenger car sales of 70,650, an increase of 11.9 percent, thanks to the strong debut of three all- new models. Boosted by the launch of its all-new second-generation model, Avalon recorded its all-time best-ever month with sales of 8,226, an increase of 18.3 percent over last October. The launch of the all-new seventh generation Celica led to sales of 4,198 units, an increase of 2,591.0 percent. The all-new ECHO entry-level sedan also posted strong first-month sales with 2,766 units sold. Toyota Division light trucks recorded best-ever October sales with 44,779 units, an increase of 12.8 percent. The all-new Tundra full-size pickup, which debuted in June, continued to post strong sales with 6,593 units sold, bringing its five month total to 29,303. The Sienna minivan posted a best- ever October with sales of 9,330, up 30.4 percent over the same period last year. The Lexus Division's record-setting October was led by the RX 300 SUV which recorded best-ever October sales of 6,607 units sold, an increase of 51.1 percent over the same period last year. The GS 300 performance sedan posted strong October sales of 2,335, up 41.5 percent. Sales of North American-built vehicles accounted for 62.7 percent of total October sales. There were 26 selling days compared to 27 last October.
