I-Sim Awarded Driving Simulator Contract for San Jose Police DepartmentSALT LAKE CITY, Nov. 2 -- I-Sim Corporation, a leading developer and manufacturer of driving-simulation equipment, today announced it has signed an agreement with the San Jose Police Department to construct four PatrolSim(TM) driving simulators for the department's officer training. The PatrolSim Driving Simulator uses I-Sim's state-of-the-art simulation technology to provide a highly realistic training environment. The open-seat driving station in the PatrolSim incorporates I-Sim's vehicle dynamics, preset and user-programmable traffic scenarios and sophisticated road surface software to ensure a true-to-life experience for drivers of all abilities. "We chose I-Sim as our simulator provider because of their quality design and competent staff," said Lieutenant David Babineau, training manager of the San Jose Police Department. "The three-screen design of the PatrolSim caused drastically less dizziness and motion sickness in drivers than other driving simulators usually cause. For us this was a major consideration, because if we can't keep people in the seat, then we can't train them. We also found I-Sim's graphics and scenarios to be superior to any others we considered." I-Sim was approved by the Commission of Police Officer Standards and Training (POST) to be a driving simulator provider for California law enforcement agencies. By exceeding the standards set by POST for simulator-based training, I-Sim now qualifies as a preferred vendor for police, emergency vehicle and municipal agencies throughout the state of California. "In working closely with the San Jose Police Department, we were able to assess their needs and offer them the technology they need to create a successful training program for their officers," said Reg Welles, president and CEO of I-Sim. "We look forward to a long and productive relationship with them." "I-Sim's team of presenters was composed of developers, hardware and software specialists, and sales representatives," Lieutenant Babineau said. "The staff was able to respond accurately and honestly to all of our questions. They even accepted our suggestions and will apply them to our finished product. We truly feel as if our relationship with I-Sim is a partnership." Founded in 1849, the San Jose Police Department is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year. The department employs 1,800 sworn members and civilians and trains officers in entry level, range and in-service training. The San Jose Police Department was one of the original test sites for the simulator project in 1984 and was the first police department to recognize linked training. Headquartered in Salt Lake City, I-Sim Corporation is a leading developer of high-performance wheeled-vehicle simulators for driver training in the law enforcement, trucking, military, research and emergency-vehicle markets.
