Dodge Durango, Chrysler 300M Set October Sales Highs for DaimlerChrysler
AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Nov. 2 -- U.S. sales of Dodge, Chrysler,
Plymouth and Jeep(R) brands totaled 209,517 in October -- the second best
October in history for those brands -- and included an all-time high for the
award-winning Chrysler 300M and monthly records for sport utility vehicles and
the Dodge Durango.
The Chrysler 300M posted all-time record sales of 5,478, a 19 percent leap
from last October's 4,794. Durango had its best October ever, with sales of
18,259, a 7 percent increase versus last October's record 17,683.
Total U.S. sales for the Dodge, Chrysler, Plymouth and Jeep brands were
down 4 percent from October 1998, when deliveries of 226,179 set an all-time
October record. Record SUV sales of 66,666 were up 17 percent versus last
year's 59,273. Truck sales of 150,671 were down 1 percent from last October's
record-setting 158,820. Passenger car sales of 58,846 were down 9 percent
from October 1998's 67,359.
"We're up six percent so far this year, and we expect to continue at a
record-setting pace," said Theodor R. Cunningham, Executive Vice President of
Global Sales and Marketing. "In addition, we have a whole host of fresh
products in the pipeline that will keep us top of mind with consumers,
including the Dodge Dakota Quad Cab, in dealerships this month, the Chrysler
PT Cruiser due next spring, plus much more to come next year that you'll be
hearing about soon."
Additional monthly highlights for the Chrysler brand included Chrysler
Town & Country minivan sales of 6,392, a 17 percent increase compared to
1998's 5,679; Chrysler Sebring, the nation's best-selling convertible, with
sales of 3,238, up 8 percent compared to last October's 3,123; and Chrysler
LHS sales of 2,727, a 19 percent rise versus October 1998. Jeep brand sales
of 48,407 also sizzled, with the Jeep Grand Cherokee posting sales of 26,989,
a 47 percent increase versus last October's 19,044. Dodge sales highlights
were topped by sales of the Dodge Stratus at 7,564, a 7 percent increase over
1998's 7,355, and the Ram Wagon, which posted sales of 1,018, up 25 percent
from the previous year's 844.
