Media Advisory from the Engine Manufacturers Association

2 November 1999

ADVISORY/Media Advisory from the Engine Manufacturers Association

Join the Engine Manufacturers Association (EMA) and representatives
from its member companies at a public hearing regarding the
Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) proposed rule to implement new
emission standards for highway vehicles and engines. The hearing will
cover EPA's proposed 2004 Final Rulemaking, including Control of
Emissions of Air Pollution From 2004, Later Model Year Highway Engines
and Vehicles, and Revision of Light-Duty Truck Definition.

The original rulemaking leading up to the current 2004 proposal was
the product of a joint Statement of Principles (SOP) signed in 1995 by
EPA, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and the leading engine
manufacturers. EMA is calling for a 60-day extension in the final
rulemaking process, asserting that EPA's substantial changes at this
late hour eviscerates the certainty, stability and lead-time inherent
in the SOP.

When: 10 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 2, 1999

Where: Top of the Tower, 1717 Arch Street, 51st Floor,
