SME'S Dallas '99 APEX Supports Local Economy While Bringing the Latest Resources to Area Manufacturers
               Exposition Opens Tuesday at Dallas Market Center

    DALLAS, Nov. 1 -- Bringing state-of-the-art machine tools and
metalworking technologies to greater Dallas manufacturers, the Society of
Manufacturing Engineers' (SME) biennial Dallas '99 Advanced Productivity
Exposition (APEX) is expected to generate more than $1.7 million for the
Dallas area economy.  Running Nov. 2-4, Dallas' largest machine tool and
metalworking exposition showcases the resources companies need for high-
quality, efficient production.
    "Dallas is fortunate to be hosting this exposition because it supports
area industry and will make a positive economic impact on the local economy,"
said Dave Whitney, president/CEO of the Dallas Convention and Visitors Bureau.
"SME's event helps Texas maintain the nation's second-place ranking for
manufacturing jobs by providing companies with the equipment needed to fully
utilize this abundant workforce."
    Exposition hours are: Tuesday, Nov. 2, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Wednesday, Nov.
3, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Thursday, Nov. 4, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
    Some 5,000 manufacturers, engineers and executives are expected to see and
compare the latest manufacturing products and services being displayed and
demonstrated by more than 200 exhibitors.  Technology categories include:
machining; cutting tools; milling; drilling and tapping; EDM; CAD/CAM systems;
turning; machine controls (CNC/NC/DNC); grinding and deburring; finishing; and
much more.
    Held in conjunction with the exposition, the Dallas '99 conference brings
new Exhibitor-Led Technical Sessions (free to exposition attendees),
highlighting many new products and advanced technologies seen on the show
floor; and an Advanced Technical Program, Planning Manufacturing Cells for
Machinery & Assembly Applications, held Wednesday, Nov. 3 and Thursday, Nov.
4.
