Team Daewoo Captures 1999 Michelin SCCA ProRally ChampionshipCOMPTON, Calif., Nov. 1 -- In only its first year of ProRally racing, Team Daewoo has captured the 1999 Michelin SCCA ProRally Championship trophy in the production manufacturer class following a successful showing at the D&N Bank Lake Superior ProRally on October 21-23. "The Daewoo Nubira has really proven itself throughout this series," said Peter Malaszuk, the team's lead driver. "The vehicle's performance and durability under some of racing's toughest conditions represents Korean manufacturing at its finest." The D&N Bank Lake Superior ProRally was the ninth and final round for the 1999 Michelin SCCA Pro Rally Championship. Team Daewoo has achieved a remarkable record throughout the series. The team won the ProNationals in Prescott, Arizona earlier this month, placed 5th at the STPR in Wellsboro, Penn. and placed 2nd at the Maine Forest ProRally. The ProRally racing series is sanctioned by the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA). Daewoo Motor America sells the subcompact Lanos, the compact Nubira and the mid-size luxury sedan Leganza through an expanding network of retail outlets nationwide.
