Guide Corporation to Proceed With Development Of Technology and Customer CenterANDERSON, Ind., Nov. 1 -- Guide Corporation said today that it is proceeding with plans to build its Technology and Customer Center on a 20-acre site in Pendleton, Ind. The announcement was made jointly by Michael N. Hammes, chairman and chief executive officer at Guide Corporation, and Douglas S. McGee, town manager of Pendleton, Ind. Guide Corporation is one of the world's largest manufacturers of external lighting systems for the global automotive industry. It has more than 3,600 employees worldwide. Today's announcement comes on Guide Corporation's first anniversary as an independent Tier One automotive-lighting supplier. Guide Corporation traces its automotive lighting history to 1906. It was a part of General Motors until Nov. 1, 1998. The 120,000-square-foot, multi-story office building will house an estimated 400 employees from Guide Corporation's engineering, research and development, customer service, and corporate departments. The building will give the company the capability of housing most non-manufacturing functions under one roof Estimated to cost between $12 and $15 million, Guide's Technology and Customer Center will be located on a 20-acre site near I-69 and Route 38 in the Town of Pendleton. The location is 20 miles northeast of Indianapolis and 10 miles from Anderson. Land clearing and other site improvements began in late October. Mansur Real Estate Services, Inc., of Indianapolis, is the site developer and general contractor for Guide Corporation. Lamson & Condon Architectural Design, Inc., of Indianapolis, is designing the structure. Headquartered in Anderson, Ind., Guide Corporation has plant operations in Anderson, Monroe, La., and an additional manufacturing facility in Mexico. Guide Corporation also has a sales and engineering center in Madison Heights, Mich., and a joint-venture operation, Sung San, in Taegu, South Korea.
