Systems Modeling Announces Tempo 10.1 Production Scheduling Software

    PITTSBURGH--Oct. 26, 1999--

Latest Release Offers "Capable-to-Promise" Feature, Direct
Connection to Microsoft's SQL Server, and Improved VBA

Systems Modeling Corporation introduces the latest release of its popular Tempo(R) production scheduling software. One of the most exciting additions to Tempo 10.1 is the "Capable-to-Promise" feature, which makes it easy to determine the viability of releasing an order to the shop floor by a given date, based on an existing production schedule.
Mark Glavach, Vice President, Scheduling Development, says, "The Capable-to-Promise feature considers capacity issues as well as material issues so the user can tell Tempo, `My customer needs X number of product; when can I promise it?'" The Capable-to-Promise (CTP) feature works like this: The scheduler opens the CTP window in Tempo and picks a product from a customer-configured menu. He or she then enters a release date and an order target date. The quantity of product to be produced is then entered. Finally, the request is submitted to Tempo and a program is executed which pulls the CTP order into a database that Tempo interfaces with. The order is built and sequenced, and projected start and end dates are calculated.
"Our customers have repeatedly asked for an update to Tempo that offers the functionality of the Capable-to-Promise feature, and we listened to their feedback," says C. Dennis Pegden, President and CEO of Systems Modeling Corporation. He adds, "We believe the CTP feature is an invaluable and simple method for schedulers to gain confidence in projected shipment delivery dates."
In addition to the Capable-to-Promise feature, Tempo 10.1 continues to meet the industry need for production scheduling applications that integrate more easily with other manufacturing systems. Tempo's new connection to Microsoft SQL Server makes integration simpler, allowing customers and business partners to attach Tempo directly to SQL Server. With Tempo 10.1's improved integration with Microsoft(R) Visual Basic(R) for Applications (VBA), users can customize Tempo 10.1 to facilitate data sharing with other VBA-enabled applications and corporate databases.
