Valeo Climate Control to Transfer Operations from Cornella, Spain
PARIS--October 26, 1999--Valeo Climate Control de Espana called a meeting of its Works Council today to present a plan involving the closure of its Cornella site, scheduled for summer 2000. The production of sub-assemblies for heating, ventilation and air conditioning units (HVAC) will be transferred to the Company's nearby Martorellas site, close to Barcelona. The Cornella plant employs 167 people; Valeo acquired the site when it purchased Siemens' HVAC activities in 1995.
This transfer is part of Valeo's strategy to reinforce its HVAC activities in the Barcelona area. It will be supported by a three-year, 18-million-euro investment program in the Martorellas site that will include a new plastics injection activity.
This plan, which is due to be presented to the social and administrative authorities, includes full provisions (internal transfer, redeployment, early retirement) designed to offer solutions to all personnel currently employed at the Cornella site.
