NASCAR Trucks: Mike Wallace seeks consistent finish at season finale
27 October 1999
Mooresville, NC. October 27, 1999. Mike Wallace has posted more top five finishes this season than ever before in his NASCAR Craftsman Truck career. Wallace, who finished 4th with his #2 Team ASE Ford at Texas Motor Speedway two weeks ago, has twelve top five finishes this season - six of them coming in his last eight races. "Our goal all season long was to achieve consistency on the race track," says Wallace. "I think this team has done that - Timmy (Kohuth) and this Ultra Motorsports team have done an excellent job at the track and back at the shop. Heading into every race, I have thought 'we have a shot at winning.' That's a feeling you must have at this level of competition." Winning came easily, and quickly, for Wallace and the #2 Team ASE/Ultra Motorsports operation this year. Wallace scored a victory at the season opener in Homestead, and then again just six races later at Pikes Peak. And while Wallace and company would like to put "Victory Lane Bookends" on their year by winning the season finale at California Speedway, the theme of consistency will hold everyone's attention. "We are going for a solid finish at Fontana," added Wallace. "We want to finish in the top five in series points, or in other words - I want to finish one point ahead of Jay (Sauter)." Wallace has a good shot at that goal - he currently sits just outside the 5th NCTS points position, only 9 points behind Mr. Sauter.
