Federal-Mogul Facilities Registered ISO 14001

26 October 1999

Federal-Mogul Facilities Registered ISO 14001
    SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Oct. 25 -- Federal-Mogul Corporation's
Powertrain Systems facilities in Lake City, Minnesota, and
Germantown, Wisconsin have been recommended for the prestigious ISO 14001
registration to the Environmental Management System by Underwriters
Laboratory.
    Certification for ISO 14001 can only be gained by companies who have
demonstrated the determination to recycle, reduce energy consumption and
ensure that pollution risks are minimized.
    "We're well underway with adopting ISO 14001 throughout all Federal-Mogul
facilities worldwide," said Dick Snell, chairman and chief executive officer.
"By adopting this global standard, we are incorporating a proven set of
management principles to effectively ensure compliance with environmental and
safety laws thereby building strategic environmental and safety goals into our
business plans."
    The ISO 14001 Standard requires each operating facility to:
    * Comply fully with applicable laws and continuously improve performance.
    * Identify its major environmental and safety impacts and set objectives
       and targets for minimizing those impacts.
    * Use standard operating procedures, rooted in best practices, to meet
       the plant's goals.
    * Set performance measures and regularly audit performance.
    * Train their employees and make their responsibilities clear.

    Federal-Mogul's Lake City and Germantown plants, both QS 9000 and ISO 9001
registered, produce pistons and cylinder liners for many of the world's
automotive and heavy-duty engine manufacturers. Each has identified recycling
projects to achieve savings in energy, water usage and to reduce the risk of
pollution from any of their activities.
    "ISO 14001 registration demonstrates Lake City and Germantown's commitment
to take a proactive approach in protecting the environment and its employees,"
said Ed Fain, operations manager. "By going above and beyond the minimum
regulatory requirements we will continue to be world-class manufacturing
facilities and models in our communities."
    Federal-Mogul plants with ISO 14001 certification include the piston
products plants in Manitowoc and Germantown, Wisconsin; Lake City, Minnesota;
Bradford and Bridgewater, England; Burscheid, Friedberg and Presden, Germany;
the ignition products plants in Naas, Ireland and Aubange, Belgium; the
