UNIDYNE Corporation Earns Product Certification In New Jersey Emissions Testing Program
EXTON, Pa., Oct. 25 -- UNIDYNE Corporation
today announced it has been certified by the New Jersey Department of
Environmental Protection (NJDEP) to manufacture emissions testing systems for
the state's new enhanced emissions testing program. UNIDYNE's test system,
sold through its subsidiary Maxwell Emissions Test Systems, Inc., passed
certification, paving the way for its use by repair shops and service centers
entering the program.
"We are extremely pleased to be an approved supplier for the New Jersey
program," said C. Eugene Hutcheson, UNIDYNE Chairman and Chief Executive
Officer. "UNIDYNE's investments in state-of-the-art equipment and software
and our commitment to work with New Jersey on providing high-performance,
operator-friendly systems were rewarded. UNIDYNE's certification was a matter
of system performance; however, our proven ability to service the product and
provide the manufacturing capacity are important also."
Beginning December 13, 1999, all emissions testing in New Jersey will be
subject to new EPA and NJDEP regulations that require the test be done on a
treadmill-like device called a dynamometer. Dynamometers allow testing
stations to better simulate real-world driving conditions, and thus obtain a
more accurate reading of the vehicle's emissions. Sophisticated software
programs work in conjunction with the dynamometer to analyze the emitted
gases, as well as to detect other service issues.
New Jersey's certification process included a battery of durability,
accuracy and reliability tests on UNIDYNE's Maxwell ASM 4500 Series equipment
and software. New Jersey does its testing through private inspection
facilities (PIFs), as well as centralized test lanes.
"We look forward to partnering with shop owners in New Jersey to ensure
they can participate and succeed in the new enhanced program," said Wayne R.
Lorgus, President and Chief Financial Officer. "Our delivered units and
backlog of orders now stand at more than $6 million for the New Jersey
program."
In 1997, UNIDYNE was the first approved supplier of emissions testing
equipment and software in Pennsylvania, the first state in the country to
implement the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) new mandated enhanced
testing program. The program requires repair shops and service centers to use
new, more comprehensive testing equipment like that manufactured by UNIDYNE.
The Company is currently selling and installing emissions test systems for
programs in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Virginia.
Exton, PA.-based UNIDYNE Corporation and its subsidiaries manufacture,
sell, service and finance a variety of products including vehicle emission
testing systems, specialized electric motors, and variable speed drives and
controls. UNIDYNE also manufactures engine and chassis dynamometer testing
systems for a variety of large industrial customers, focused on the automotive
and heavy equipment industries. The Company employs 180 people at facilities
in Kenosha, WI, San Francisco, CA, Anaheim, CA, and Exton, PA.
