Patriot Scientific Announces German Design Win for Automotive Inspection Equipment

    SAN DIEGO--Oct. 25, 1999--

Reilhofer KG To Use PSC1000-Based Module In Vibration Analysis
Products; Module Also To Be Sold Commercially

Patriot Scientific Corp. (OTCBB:PTSC), today announced that Reilhofer KG has selected Patriot's PSC1000 microprocessor for use in its Vibration Analysis Product targeted at the inspection of automotive gearboxes and transmissions.
Reilhofer's selection of the PSC1000 represents the microprocessor's first design win in Germany, as well as the first automotive application for the chip.
Reilhofer has a blue chip customer list, which includes Audi, BMW, Ford, Opel, Porsche, Volkswagen, Mannesmann Demag, Daimler/Chrysler, John Deere, MAN America and General Motors.
A small PSC1000-based board called the MiniModul 2M will become a key component of Reilhofer's market-leading deltaANALYSER inspection product. Hans Eckes Hardware & Software, a company affiliated with Reilhofer, designed the board to Reilhofer's specifications. Because the MiniModul 2M is a small cost-effective board suitable for many embedded applications, Hans Eckes will make the board available as a standalone commercial product aimed at industrial control OEMs. Detailed information on the MiniModul 2M can be found on the Web at: http://www.ptsc.com/psc1000/hanseckes.html.
Reilhofer's deltaANALYSER is a measuring instrument for early detection of failures of rotating machinery based on vibration analysis. The examined components, for example a gearbox on a test bench, are compared during the measurement against their state in the beginning of the test. The sum of the systematical changes is displayed as a trend and is an indicator of the failure progress. For example, it detects pitting on tooth profile, cracks in the root of a gear tooth, damage of a bearing, or clutch burning in automatic gears.
The primary advantage of the deltaANALYSER is the ability to find changes in the vibration without knowing the location or kind of damage. This enables the user to monitor machinery successfully without knowing the vibratory interrelationships. The central processing unit of the deltaANALYSER is the PSC1000 on a MiniModul 2M which executes the adjustment of the signal processing, the failure calculation and the communication with a PC, which is used as an interface to the user.
"Reilhofer's selection of the PSC1000 is very important, since it breaks us into the market in Germany and also represents our first application in the automotive segment," said Patriot's President and Chief Executive Officer, Jim Lunney. "We are gratified that a company with strong market leadership in its segment has chosen our technology for such a key product."
"Our analysis led to the PSC1000 as the perfect microprocessor choice as we further enhance the features of the deltaANALYSER, which is already dominant in our target markets," said Reilhofer's Managing Director, Johannes Reilhofer. "The PSC1000 is well suited to our industrial control application due to its superior price/performance and extensive on-chip peripheral set," added Reilhofer.
Reilhofer KG was founded in 1990 with the aim to develop a new generation of fatigue measuring equipment for mechanical structures. The initial demand from the car manufacturing industry was so strong, that a new market has developed for online fatigue calculation computers and application of computerized pattern recognition techniques for the vibration analysis of rotating machinery. With several years of research and development, the deltaANALYSER from Reilhofer KG is now a Standard in the automotive industry for transmission fault detection both during durability tests and End of Line Noise control. The company's address and contact information is:

Patriot Scientific recently demonstrated the first-to-market Java microprocessor, the PSC1000, at the Embedded Systems Conference in San Jose. Samples of the MiniModul 2M were shown at the Patriot booth to potential customers seeking board-level solutions based upon the PSC1000.
Founded in 1987, Patriot Scientific Corp. designs, markets and manufactures: the PSC1000, based on the patented ShBoom technology, a 32-bit microprocessor targeted at Java and Internet appliances as well as the traditional embedded systems markets; high-performance ISDN Basic Rate and Primary Rate products for digital communications and ground penetrating radar.
