Turbodyne's and AlliedSignals's Jointly Developed Dynacharger Recognized for International Innovation Grand Prix Award
WOODLAND HILLS, Calif.--Oct. 25, 1999--Turbodyne Technologies Inc. (EASDAQ:TRBD) announced today that its joint development partner AlliedSignal Turbocharging Systems was awarded the International Grand Prix for Technical Innovation Jury's Special Prize for its new electrically assisted Garrett(R) Dynacharger(TM).The award ceremony for the International Grand Prix took place on Oct. 15, 1999 at the Equip'Auto Show in Paris, which was attended by several prominent figures from the automotive world.
The Garrett(R) Dynacharger(TM) has been jointly developed by Turbodyne Technologies Inc. and AlliedSignal under an exclusive licensing and development agreement. As part of the agreement, Turbodyne supplies engineering, light-metal castings, electric motors, generators and electronic controls. AlliedSignal holds exclusive rights for the manufacturing and marketing of any turbocharger products being developed on a worldwide basis as a result of the joint activities.
One of the main advantages of electrically assisted turbocharging technology is its ability to increase turbo speed at low engine speed, increasing low speed torque and improving transient response to eliminate "turbolag," the typical "lag-time" between the moment a driver accelerates to the time an engine receives "boost" from the turbocharger. In addition, the electrically assisted turbocharger produces electricity that could be used to replenish a vehicle's battery, among other duties. AlliedSignal Turbocharging Systems reports that it will begin testing the Garrett(R) Dynacharger(TM) with major U.S. and European automotive manufacturers by the end of the year.
"We are extremely proud to have received such a prestigious award," said Bert Snijders, vice president and general manager, AlliedSignal Turbocharging Systems Europe. "As the first of its kind, the Garrett(R) Dynacharger(TM), applicable for both gasoline and diesel vehicles, is an exciting addition to our current turbocharger line and demonstrates AlliedSignal's commitment to be first in providing its customers with the latest boosting technologies."
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Peter Hofbauer, chief executive officer of Turbodyne Technologies Inc., commented, "We are pleased and honored that our joint development work not only has been met with great interest on the side of the OEMs but additionally has been recognized by the jury's automotive experts in such a prestigious and highly visible way. This prize endorses our concentrated efforts to supply the finest technical solutions possible."
