ABRA Auto Body & Glass Helps Stock Food Shelves
MINNEAPOLIS--Oct. 22, 1999--ABRA Auto Body & Glass will be collecting non-perishable food for emergency food shelters starting October 25 through November 30. Consumers are urged to visit an ABRA facility during these dates to receive a free headlight aiming in return for a five-item donation of food."We've collected almost 51 tons of food and over $10,000 since we began this promotion in 1993," stated Rollie Benjamin, President and CEO of ABRA Auto Body & Glass. "This is one way we can give back to the communities that have supported us over the years. In addition, the valuable headlight aiming service offers safer night driving as children go off to school during shorter days and darker conditions."
The Emergency FoodShelf Network of Minneapolis/St. Paul serves 26 food shelves in Hennepin County, MN, and will again benefit from ABRA's collection of food.
"Right now contributions are needed everywhere, and ABRA's commitment to this program is critical to many families around the metro not earning a living wage", stated George Gallagher, Operations Coordinator for the Emergency FoodShelf Network. "Unfortunately, even with the economy as healthy as it has been for so long, the number of needy is increasing.
"Primary growth areas are with the elderly and working poor. Fifty-three percent of the people we serve are children. A severely alarming statistic is that two out of three children in the Minneapolis School District qualify for subsidized or free lunches.
"Also alarming is that one out of every eighteen households in Hennepin County visits the Food Shelf at least once a year, with the average number of visits at 2.5 times per year. We express our sincere gratitude for the people at ABRA and what they are doing for those in need."
Appointments for the free headlight aiming can be made by calling 1-888-USA-ABRA for the ABRA location nearest you.
