Goodyear Receives Luxembourg American Business AwardNEW YORK, Oct. 22 -- The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company , in ceremonies here last night, has been presented the inaugural Luxembourg American Business Award. Samir G. Gibara, Goodyear's chairman, president and chief executive officer, accepted the award from His Royal Highness Crown Prince Henri of Luxembourg. The award, presented by the Luxembourg American Chamber of Commerce honors companies for their contributions in promoting trade and business relationships between the Grand Duchy and the United States. "Goodyear was selected by unanimous agreement," said Fernand Lamesch, president of the Luxembourg American Chamber of Commerce. "Recognition from such a distinguished organization is particularly gratifying because this year marks Goodyear's 50th anniversary in the Grand Duchy," said Gibara in accepting the award. "To lead Goodyear at such a challenging, exciting period in the history of our industry is a privilege," he said. "To see our company's efforts applauded by such a prestigious group is a great honor." Goodyear's Luxembourg complex represents the company's single largest investment outside of the United States. Luxembourg is not only the hub of Goodyear's activities in Europe, it is also the technical and manufacturing headquarters for three of the company's five geographic regions. Goodyear employs 3,700 associates in Luxembourg, where it manufactures tires, molds, fabric and steel wire, as well as operates a technical center and tire proving grounds. Goodyear is the world's largest tire and rubber company. Headquartered in Akron, Ohio, the company manufactures tires, engineered rubber products and chemicals in more than 90 facilities in 30 countries. It has marketing operations in almost every country around the world. Goodyear, with the addition of its Dunlop tire joint ventures, employs more than 105,000 people worldwide.
