Transportation Technologies Industries Acquires BMC of Virginia, Inc.

    CHICAGO--Oct. 21, 1999--Transportation Technologies Industries, Inc. today announced that its Imperial Group subsidiary has acquired BMC of Virginia, Inc. (BMC-VA). Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. However, the company said no additional debt will be incurred because it will use cash on-hand to fund the acquisition.
    BMC-VA is based in Dublin, Virginia and has annual revenues of about $11 million. The company is a leading supplier of components to Volvo, whose North American assembly operations are located adjacent to BMC-VA. BMC-VA manufactures, warehouses, assembles and sequences components for Volvo and Freightliner. The acquisition expands TTII's presence in the Class 8 truck industry with products that complement Imperial's current product mix. BMC-VA will become part of Imperial's Fabricating Division.
    Based in Portland, Tennessee, Imperial Group is a leading Tier I and Tier II supplier of body and chassis components for heavy-duty Class 8 truck manufacturers and transit bus manufacturers. Revenues are expected to exceed $100 million in 1999. Production facilities are located in Tennessee, Texas and Washington, in close proximity to customers' manufacturing operations.
    TTII, headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, is a leading manufacturer of components for heavy-duty and medium-duty trucks and buses, and the truck parts aftermarket. Product lines include Gunite heavy-duty wheel-end components, Brillion custom iron castings, Imperial body and chassis components, Bostrom truck and bus seating systems, and Fabco steerable drive axles and gearboxes.
