Delphi Wins $5.7 Million Annual Contract with Korea's Kia Motors
SEOUL, South Korea, Oct. 21 -- Delphi Automotive Systems
won a U.S. $5.7 million per year contract with Kia Motors Corp.
recently to supply bussed electrical centers for use in its Sephia IV mid-size
vehicle beginning in 2000.
Delphi's Packard Electric Systems division will produce the bussed
electrical centers at its Daesung Electric Co. Ltd. joint venture facility in
Ansan City, South Korea for Kia, a subsidiary of Korea's largest automaker,
Hyundai Motor Co. Ltd. Bussed electrical centers are electrical systems
components that combine fuse and relay centers, splices and harness-to-harness
interconnects in a centralized package.
"Building on our relationships with major Korean automakers such as Kia is
critical to Delphi's growth strategy in the Asia Pacific region," said Tom
Martin, Delphi Packard Electric country manager, Korea. "Delphi has
demonstrated its ability to supply innovative, high-quality products for
previous Kia programs, and that played a decisive role in winning this
particular business package."
Kia projects Sephia IV production volumes at 190,000 per year, which
includes domestic sale as well as for export to North America and Europe.
Delphi Packard Electric operates two joint ventures in Korea and one
customer service center. From these facilities Delphi Packard Electric
provides innovative power and signal distribution systems products to Korea's
three largest automakers: Kia, Hyundai and Daewoo.
Delphi Automotive Systems, with headquarters in Troy, Mich., USA, is a
world leader in automotive component and systems technology. Delphi's three
business sectors -- Dynamics & Propulsion; Safety, Thermal & Electrical
Architecture; and Electronics & Mobile Communications -- provide comprehensive
