NASCAR Winston West: Woodside Three-peats at Mesa Marin

21 October 1999

October 21, 1999 (Roseville, CA) - Sean Woodside made it three in a row when
he took the checkered flag in Sunday's Re-refined Oil 250 at Mesa Marin
Raceway in Bakersfield, Calif.

Woodside won both the 1998 and 1997 events, held annually during Mesa Marin's
October Classic Weekend.

This weekend's win stretched the team's lead in the championship standings to
1,920 points, 109 points over second place contender Austin Cameron.

"The team's hard work really paid off this time," said team owner Bill
McAnally. "We knew we had to win this race to be comfortable going to Japan
feeling that we could clinch the championship."

"We came, we saw, we…well, we worked very hard for that win," Woodside
commented after the race. "We were confident we could do it, but we also
wanted to make sure we did everything we could do to make it happen. The
team did an incredible job preparing the car. It was great having so many of
our sponsors, friends, and family there to share it with us."

Woodside started the race from the inside second row position. He held back
for most of the race, running just behind the leaders, mostly in the top
five, and even dropping back several positions after a four-tire pit stop.
He continued to let the leaders set the pace until the restart at lap 206
following a short caution. After the green flag dropped, Woodside pounced on
then leader Bill Sedgwick. To the thrill of the fans, the two put on a hard
and fast two car show, running side by side and exchanging the lead several
times before the final caution flag came out on lap 236. At the restart,
Woodside shot ahead and led Sedgwick for the final few laps of the race.

The next and final event on the 1999 NASCAR Winston West schedule is at Twin
Ring Motegi in Japan in November, and will be the first-ever NASCAR points
race to be decided outside of North America.

Bill McAnally Racing (BMR) owns and operates the No. 16 NAPA Auto

points standings, the Gatorade Front Runner Award, the Clevite Engine Builder
Award and Bud Pole Award races, laps led, laps completed and best average
finish. Current season results include two wins, four top fives, nine top ten
finishes and two Bud Pole Awards. Woodside finished both the 1997 and 1998
seasons in second place in the Winston West points standings.
