Delphi Automotive Systems Receives 1999 Family Life Enhancement Award
    KOKOMO, Ind., Oct. 19 -- Delphi Delco Electronics Systems, a
division of Delphi Automotive Systems , recently received the 1999
Buchanan Counseling Center of Clarian Health Family Life Enhancement Award for
innovative employee policies and initiatives focused on family enrichment.
Given annually to companies throughout the state that offer the best support
for families and that foster family-friendly work environments, Delphi Delco
Electronics won the award in the "More Than 1,000 Employees Division" of the
four divisions awarded recognition based on company size.
    Delphi officials accepted the award at the 1999 Family Life Enhancement
Awards Celebration banquet at the Indiana Roof Ballroom in Indianapolis.
    "Work and family are interdependent and two of the most fundamental parts
of our lives," said David B. Wohleen, president of Delphi Delco Electronics
Systems.  "We believe attuning work to accommodate family and making family a
valued part of our work culture helps to create the kind of environment that
contributes to overall personal and business success. Being recognized by
Clarian Health for our efforts in this area is very gratifying."
    Over the years, Delphi Delco Electronics Systems has instituted many
programs and initiatives in support of employees with family in mind. In
addition to an attractive benefits package that includes paid holidays,
healthcare plan, savings plans and paid vacations, Delphi Delco Electronics
offers a host of other initiatives designed specifically for employees with
families.
    The company offers programs and initiatives in the broad areas of time
management, childcare, recreation, health and education.

    Some of the family initiatives and policies at the company include
flexible work schedules, flexible hours, telecommuting and alternative
employment options that are available to adjust work schedules when required.
Delphi Delco Electronics provides an on-site child care facility for parents
with pre-school age children.  Named the "Microchips Learning Center," the
center provides excellent care and education for employee's children between
the ages of six weeks and kindergarten.
    A number of family resource counseling and referral services are offered
under the company's LifeWorks program.  Employees can get immediate help and
information on elder care, adoption, childcare and other community programs
and service providers through an 800 number.
    The Dependent Scholarship Program at Delphi provides funding of up to
$1,000 per year per dependent to attend post secondary classes.  In addition,
supervisors are encouraged to support the professional development of every
employee.  Tuition assistance is available to all full-time employees.
    Other initiatives focused around family included at the company include
Flex Benefits plans that tailor benefits to family-specific needs; a Health
International 24-hour nurse hot line accessible by an 800 number that provides
advice and support for family health issues Delphi Delco also provides also
provides free flu shots and pneumonia vaccines for employees and retirees
through its wellness program called Life Steps.  In addition, the company has
extended shutdown periods at Christmas and in July that many of the employees
use to be with their families.
