Tenneco Automotive's New Kinetic Suspension System Wins Gold International Grand Prix for Technical Innovation Award At Paris Auto Show
LAKE FOREST, Ill.--Oct. 19, 1999--Tenneco Automotive's new Kinetic suspension system, designed to improve vehicle stability and road-holding roll resistance, has been named the Gold Award winning entry of the International Grand Prix for Technical Innovation at the Paris Equip Auto Showcase in Paris. The Tenneco Automotive Kinetic suspension system, currently being exhibited at this year's Tokyo Motor Show, was chosen as the Gold Award winner from among 200 nominees and eight semi-finalists, by a panel of 70 automotive journalists representing 17 countries. The award is given to concepts, products or services judged to be the most innovative at the Paris show. In winning the award, the Kinetic system was cited for "simplicity and value as compared to active systems, application across all vehicle segments, and both on-road comfort and 'awesome' off-road capability."
"We are both excited and gratified to receive this prestigious international award for advanced technology," said Mark P. Frissora, president of Tenneco Automotive. "Our vision as an automotive supplier is to pioneer global ideas for cleaner, quieter and safer transportation. Winning the Gold Award for our Kinetic suspension system at this year's Paris Equip Auto Showcase is certainly testimony in support of our efforts."
The Kinetic suspension system is designed to reduce the potential of all types of vehicles, including sport utility vehicles (SUVs), to roll over during cornering in conditions ranging from high-speed motorways to rough off-road terrain. The new technology is engineered to reduce the roll angle in vehicle cornering by keeping nearly equal load on all four wheels as surface conditions vary. The new Kinetic system is a simple, reliable and cost-effective alternative to electronically controlled active systems. Its commercial prospects appear to be outstanding as demonstrated by the 10 vehicle conversions resulting from original equipment development contracts. These contracts include all vehicle segments -- passenger car, SUV and heavy-duty.
