Palace Theatre Renamed the Cadillac Palace
CHICAGO, Oct. 19 -- The Palace Theatre, Fox Theatricals and
General Motors today announced a partnership that renames the renovated
historic theatre the Cadillac Palace. The relationship brings together two
American icons with a long heritage of being at the forefront of art and
science.
"It is only fitting that this venue now has an affiliation with Cadillac,
an automobile with a long-standing tradition of quality, elegance and
innovation," said Michael Leavitt, president of the theatre and executive
producer of Fox Theatricals. "The name reflects everything this theatre has
been and everything we know it will become upon its reopening. As we move
forward in our goal of fulfilling Mayor Daley's vision of a vibrant Randolph
Street theatre district, it is our pleasure to build this relationship with
Cadillac."
"We are very excited to be a part of this fabulous theatre's continued
history and current rebirth," said Michael O'Malley, general manager for GM's
North Central Region. "We are also pleased to partner with an anchor of the
Chicago Loop's rejuvenated theatre district.
"Our naming of the Cadillac Palace is one of the most visible examples of
Cadillac's and General Motors' commitment to the city of Chicago, as well as
the importance of the market to us," O'Malley said. "We are making
significant commitments in forming relationships, not just sponsorships, with
properties and venues in the Chicago area."
Originally opened in 1926, the Cadillac Palace is currently undergoing a
complete restoration and renovation, budgeted at more than $20 million, which
will be completed by the end of October. The new Cadillac Palace will retain
the elegance, sophistication and intimacy of the original theatre, while
melding state-of-the-art technological innovations for modern productions and
the personal comfort demands of today's patrons.
"The Cadillac Palace is the perfect platform to optimize Cadillac's brand
image and art and science vision -- aesthetically elegant and technologically
sophisticated," said Pat Harrison, Cadillac regional market manager for the
North Central Region. "Cadillac's art and science strategy builds on a
heritage of expressive flair and technological ingenuity that has historically
set Cadillac apart from the crowd."
"We are proud to welcome Cadillac as our partner as we begin this new
chapter in the life of this great theatre," said Scott Zeiger, president of
SFX Theatrical. "Just as Cadillac is known for creating the world's finest
automobiles, we are confident that the Cadillac Palace will soon be recognized
as one of the premier theatre venues in North America."
The Cadillac Palace, located at 151 W. Randolph in Chicago, is scheduled
to open to the public on November 12. The first production to play at the
Cadillac Palace will be Elton John and Tim Rice's new musical, "Aida," a Walt
Disney Theatrical Production. The public will be invited to tour the new
theatre during an open house on Sunday, November 7 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
