New Staff Join Alliance of Automobile ManufacturersWASHINGTON, Oct. 18 The Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers today announced the arrival of several new staff at the association. The Alliance was formed in January 1999 to serve as a leading advocacy group for the automobile industry on public policy matters. "Members of the Alliance are focused on motor vehicle safety, advanced technology, environmental protection, consistent global regulations and market-based, cost-effective solutions," said Josephine S. Cooper, President, Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers. "The new staff all bring expertise that will help us serve our 11 members in these areas." The 11 members are BMW, DaimlerChrysler, Fiat, Ford, General Motors, Isuzu, Mazda, Nissan, Toyota, Volkswagen, and Volvo. New staff members are listed below by department. Environmental Affairs * Gregory J. Dana, Vice President of Environmental Affairs. Mr. Dana formerly served as Vice President and Technical Director for the Association of International Automobile Manufacturers, where he managed regulatory and legislative issues regarding vehicle safety, emissions, fuel economy and manufacturing. His previous experience includes serving as policy analyst in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Mobile Sources. Mr. Dana will head the environmental affairs department, which currently includes Robert Babik, Director of Environment Programs; and Steven Douglas, Director of Environmental Affairs. Office of the General Counsel * John T. Whatley, Assistant General Counsel. Mr. Whatley formerly was Assistant General Counsel for the Association of International Automobile Manufacturers, where his responsibilities included litigation management and serving as the principal advocate for the association on manufacturer/dealer franchise law, consumer protection, and finance and related matters. Previously, he was an associate at Kirkland & Ellis in Washington, D.C, with a litigation, environmental and antitrust practice. * Denise Radinovic, Legal Administrative Assistant. Ms. Radinovic previously was Administrative Assistant in the Legal Department of the American Automobile Manufacturers Association. The general counsel department also includes Julie Becker, Assistant General Counsel/Environment. Government Affairs * Katherine M. Horne, Manager of Government Affairs. Ms. Horne formerly served as Executive Director of Americans for Affordable Electricity (AAE), a multi-industry coalition with over 250 members supporting a competitive electricity market. Ms. Horne's prior experience includes a position as Manager, Energy and Tax Policy, Federal Government relations at the Chemical Manufacturers Association. * Scott Aliferis, Manager of Government Affairs. Mr. Aliferis formerly was Legislative Director for U.S. Representative Fred Upton. In that position, he was principal policy advisor to the Congressman and was responsible for coordinating the Member's legislative agenda. He also served as the staff co- chair of the Congressional Automotive Caucus. * Sandra Facciolli, Government Affairs Assistant. Ms. Faccialli previously was an assistant in the Federal Liaison Department for the American Automobile Manufacturers Association. Michael Stanton, Vice President of Government Affairs, leads the department. State Affairs * Kimberly J. Ashton, State Affairs Manager, Ms. Ashton joins the Alliance from the American Petroleum Institute, where she was a Field Operations Associate responsible for supporting the education and advocacy efforts of 33 field offices on federal and state legislative and regulatory issues. Prior to that, she evaluated environmental issues at ICF Incorporated, a consulting firm. * James R. Kiley, State Affairs Analyst. Mr. Kiley formerly was an Associate Lobbyist at The Wexler Group in Washington, D.C., where he focused on health care issues. * Stephanie Whitmore, State Affairs Assistant. Ms. Whitmore formerly was employed by Sun Microsystems, Inc. in Palo Alto, CA. Kris Kiser, Vice President of State Affairs, leads the department. The Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers is a coalition of car and light truck manufacturers. Alliance member companies have approximately 600,000 employees in the United States, with more than 250 facilities in 35 states. Alliance members represent more than 90 percent of U.S. vehicle sales.
