Avis Canada Announces Price Increase

15 October 1999

Avis Canada Announces Price Increase
GARDEN CITY, N.Y., Oct. 15 -- Avis Canada announced an increase in car
rental rates of $3.00 per day and $20.00 per week, effective October 18, 1999.
The rate increase applies to all rentals other than those covered by corporate
agreements or other special arrangements.
The announcements by Avis Canada follows recent price increases that have
occurred in the car rental industry throughout North America. William
Boxberger, Vice President and General Manager of Avis Canada, cited increased
vehicle costs and operating expenses along with the need for major capital
investments in recent years as the basis for the price increase.
Mr. Boxberger said, "There have been no real price increases in Canada's rent
a car industry in years; our pricing remains among the lowest in the world.
We believe that the rest of the industry will follow this pricing direction as
they have been affected by the same cost pressures that we have. As always,
we remain committed to providing outstanding service to our customers at
competitive rates."
