Dana Corporation's Spicer Heavy Systems Assembly Division Granted ISO 14001 Environmental CertificationTOLEDO, Ohio, Oct. 15 -- Dana Corporation for the prestigious ISO 14001 certification for environmental quality. This certification covers plants in Lancaster, Pa. and Lugoff, S.C., and the division office in Wyomissing, Pa. The overall aim of ISO 14001 is to support environmental protection and the prevention of pollution. The certification recognizes Dana's compliance with all North American environmental laws and regulations as well as a commitment to improving environmental initiatives through environmentally friendly processes and programs. To achieve the ISO 14001 certification_ the Dana facilities created an Environmental Management System that enables the organization to establish and assess the effectiveness of procedures and conformance to a set environmental policy. The system measures the success of the program through management reviews_ employee awareness and training programs_ recycling programs_ and a facility communication campaign. Spicer Heavy Systems Assembly Division is registered through QMI, a division of Canadian Standards Association. In recommending Spicer Heavy Systems Assembly for approval the registrar noted that, "Dana Corporation was very proactive in their approach to implementing the ISO 14001 program. This was evident by the support of top management and the participation of the plant and environmental personnel." Dana's Spicer Heavy Systems Assembly Division supplies complete chassis assemblies for the Class-8 truck market to Mack Trucks, Western Star Trucks, and other customers. The division's Lugoff facility was recently named the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce Manufacturer of the Year and was ranked among IndustryWeek magazine's Top 25 plants in North America in 1998 and 1999.
