General Motors Ongoing Hispanic Initiative Nears $1M LevelSponsorship of Alejandro Fernandez Concert Series Furthers Ties To Hispanic Scholarship Fund THOUSAND OAKS, Calif., Oct. 15 -- As title sponsor of the 1999/2000 concert series for Latin sensation Alejandro Fernandez, General Motors will be combining its ongoing support for the Hispanic community with an interactive program that allows concert-goers the opportunity to contribute their own support to the Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF). While the General Motors Foundation has been a national contributor to HSF for more than 15 years, with ongoing donations nearing $1,000,000, the Fernandez sponsorship is the first major Hispanic initiative to be funded specifically through GM's Western region. Contribution efforts will continue throughout the six-city West Coast concert series, which began Oct. 1 in Tucson, Ariz. and Oct. 3 in Sacramento, Calif. Each concert venue will contain GM's bi-lingual interactive product display as part of the company's "Measure-Up Challenge." All concert-goers participating in the challenge will earn $1 toward GM's overall donation to HSF. As the largest Hispanic scholarship-granting organization in the nation, HSF recognizes outstanding Hispanic students in higher education throughout the United States and Puerto Rico. "General Motors is continuing its commitment to the Hispanic community and strives to be a leader in promoting diversity in every aspect of our business," said Doug Herberger, General Motors general manager, Western Region. "These funds not only help to educate, but years from now may help to provide an outstanding pool of educated leaders that may one day choose to work for GM. We are working hard to become the company of choice for Hispanics - for our consumer products and services, investors and the best and brightest talent," added Herberger. Concert-goers can participate in GM's on-site "Measure-Up Challenge" by signing in at the GM booth and answering a few questions about GM's featured product line. Participants answer questions by walking around and viewing the various vehicles on display. All GM display signage and its on-site product specialists will be bi-lingual. Opening two hours before each concert, the GM display features nearly a dozen 2000 model vehicles including: -- Chevrolet Silverado -- Cadillac Escalade -- Chevrolet Astro Van -- Buick Century -- Chevrolet Impala -- Pontiac Grand Prix -- Oldsmobile Alero -- GMC Sierra Alejandro Fernandez is one of today's hottest Latin stars.
