Students from all over Indiana and some from surrounding states are expected

crowned.

The individual champion and runner-up, as well as the team champions, will
receive trophies, and the individual champion will receive a full Lincoln

license in order to compete. Drivers under the age of 18 must present a
Minor Release Form signed by parents.

Cars, trucks, or vans must be street legal and may run no faster than 12.00

inspection prior to being allowed to compete.

Competition will be in an E.T. racing format, with cars handicapped

will be given at least two time trial runs prior to competition.

Entry fee will be $10 for car and driver. Spectator fee will be $6 per
person, with children 12 and under admitted free.

Gates at IRP will open at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 23, with a racing
seminar scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Time trials will begin at 11:00 a.m., and
eliminations will begin at 2:00 p.m. First round eliminations in two
special categories for Lincoln Tech instructors and students will begin at

Three high school drag racing events have been held in the Spring at IRP,
with participating ranging from 125 to 175 entries from more than 50 high
school.

In the 1999 Spring race, Michael Sells of Selma, Ind., representing Wapahani
High School, was the individual winner, defeating Carl Zehr of Williamsport,
Ind., who was running for the Tri-County Vocational Center of Covington.

Sells' victory helped Wapahani earn their second Spring state championship
in the three years of the series. They had also won in 1997.

Whiteland High School, the 1998 team champions, placed second in the 1999
Spring event.

Tri-County was third, with Crawfordsville and Mooresville placing in a tie
for fourth. A four-way tie for sixth involved Avon, Franklin Central,
Rockville, and Troy (Mo.).
