UAW Reaffirms Presidential Endorsement Procedure
DETROIT, Oct. 13 -- On July 1 of this year, UAW President
Stephen P. Yokich issued the following statement regarding presidential
endorsements, "We have not endorsed any candidate in any presidential primary
and we don't intend to until our own endorsement procedure is completed."
"As of this date," President Yokich said today, "our presidential
endorsement process remains ongoing and therefore our delegates to the AFL-CIO
Convention will be voting against making any endorsement at this time."
"Under our system," Yokich continued, "it is the International Executive
Board that is empowered to make endorsements for candidates for national
office following a union-wide process of evaluation."
"We are looking closely at the records and positions of the candidates in
each of the parties," Yokich added.
