LMS Engineering Services Expands into USA
LEUVEN, Belgium--Oct. 13, 1999--LMS Engineering Services has made a strategic commitment to its USA automotive customers by opening up a major consulting center in Detroit, MI.The operational scope will range from troubleshooting projects for NVH, durability, ride & handling refinement, through technology transfer programs, to full size co-development projects where LMS assumes project responsibility for the final functional performance of a vehicle or sub-assembly.
The initial group of senior consulting engineers from Leuven are already in place and will complement the existing North American group of multi-body dynamics and FEA consultants who joined LMS during the LMS CADSI acquisition in January, 1999. The LMS NA Engineering services will be headed by Tim Palmer, previously a director of a major automotive CAE-NVH engineering consultancy in the Detroit area.
As part of the rapid build-up of its presence and effectiveness, LMS has signed an agreement with the Sika Corporation to make use of their new NVH center. This $8 million facility gives the LMS engineering team immediate access to state-of-the-art resources: a chassis dynamometer, a reverberation room, a semi-anechoic chamber, a jury testing room, and all the necessary office space to house the operation. In turn, Sika will network the LMS Test and Analysis software throughout the facility to test, validate and optimize the performance of their specialty acoustic, bonding and sealing materials.
Dr. Urbain Vandeurzen, LMS Chairman, President, and CEO commented, "LMS has developed innovative approaches for vehicle development that have enabled a breakthrough at critical points in the functional engineering process. These have been validated with major automotive OEMs in recent, large scale developments, and the new LMS Engineering Center is a strategic response to the tremendous demand of our US clients."
Dirk De Vis, Director of LMS Engineering Services concluded, "We provide a unique combination of testing expertise and CAE skills. We now have the staffing and the resources to rapidly expand our engineering consulting business in the US."
