Detroit Diesel Corporation Announces the Promotion of Charles G. McClure to Chief Executive OfficerDETROIT, Oct. 7 -- Detroit Diesel Corporation (DDC) announced today the appointment of Charles G. (Chip) McClure to President and CEO of DDC effective immediately. McClure will report to Roger S. Penske, who will remain Chairman of DDC. Roger S. Penske stated, "In today's competitive environment, with ever- increasing cost reduction, quality and customer service expectations, Chip McClure has exhibited proven leadership skills, solid international experience and a personal commitment to help guide our company into the next century. His broad and diverse background will continue to be beneficial to our business and enhance our efforts to strengthen DDC's position in new and existing markets. Since coming on board two years ago, he has worked with our customers, suppliers and employees, including UAW Local 163, to grow our business, and we are confident that he will play a major role in our future growth." Mr. Penske added, "Chip, along with our senior management team, will continue to focus on broad-based strategic and marketing initiatives that will ensure DDC's long-term success." Prior to joining DDC, McClure was employed for 14 years at Johnson Controls, Inc. During that time, he was president, and previously vice president and general manager of the Automotive Systems Group for the Americas, a $4 billion group of businesses with 50 plants and 20,000 employees. Prior to his employment at Johnson Controls, McClure was employed at the Ford Motor Company as a heavy truck sales engineer and previously a product engineer. McClure holds a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University and an MBA from the University of Michigan.
