AMA: Ernesto Fonseca is AMA MotoCross/SuperCross Rookie of the Year

PICKERINGTON, Ohio -- Yamaha of Troy rider Ernesto Fonseca has been named the AMA Motocross/Supercross Rookie of the Year, American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) Pro Racing announced today. The 18-year-old Fonseca, of Costa Rica, captured the 1999 AMA 125cc Eastern Region Supercross Championship by winning six of seven series races, and finishing the 1999 AMA 125cc Mazda Truck Motocross Nationals season ranked eighth overall. Fonseca started racing at the age of 6, and he holds AMA 125cc amateur titles dating back to 1995. To be eligible for AMA Motocross/Supercross Rookie of the Year honors, a rider must be in his first full season with an AMA Pro Sport motocross competition license. The award is presented to the rider who meets this criteria and earns the most national points in 250cc Supercross, 250cc Motocross and 125cc Motocross combined.
