BMW Reports Strongest September Sales Ever with 19 Percent Sales Increase; Sales for First Nine Months of 1999 Outpaced 1998 by 19 Percent
WOODCLIFF LAKE, N.J., Oct. 4 -- BMW of North America, Inc.
closed the first nine months of 1999 with its strongest sales ever, reporting
year-to-date sales of 116,308, an increase of 19 over the 97,808 automobiles
sold in the first nine months of 1998. BMW also reported the company's
strongest September on record, with sales of 11,126 automobiles compared to
9,323 a year ago, also an increase of 19 percent.
BMW 3 series contributed to BMW's record sales this month, with an
increase of 63 percent over the same month a year ago, with sales of
6,841 3 Series automobiles compared to 4,191 last September.
Land Rover North America, Inc. reported an increase of 61 percent in
September sales with a record-breaking 2,522 vehicles sold, compared to
1,568 in 1998. Year-to-date sales jumped 37 percent, to 20,737 vehicles.
Land Rover reported year-to-date sales of 15,105 a year ago.
Consolidated September sales for the BMW Group jumped 25 percent to
13,648 (BMW: 11,126; Land Rover: 2,522) and consolidated year-to-date sales
increased 21 percent to 137,045 vehicles (BMW: 116,308; Land Rover: 20,737).
