Orbit/FR Introduces Automotive Antenna Measurement System (AAMS) Solution; Orbit/FR's Automotive System Streamlines Auto Manufacturer DemandsMONTEREY, Calif., Oct. 4 -- Foreseeing the emerging needs of automotive manufacturers, Orbit/FR, Inc. introduced its innovative automotive antenna measurement system (AAMS). AAMS enables automotive manufacturers to measure and verify the proper operation of wireless automotive systems including radios, global positioning satellite (GPS), cellular phones and collision-avoidance. The system combines both near-field and far-field measurement technology, providing accurate results over the frequency range. This system implements the two types of measurements into one integrated test range, providing antenna measurements from 30 megahertz (MHz) continuous to 6 gigahertz (GHz) with optional extension to 18 GHz. The facility is enclosed by a radome enabling operations in all weather conditions. The vehicle under test is placed on a rotating turntable while a scanning arm collects measurement data. The scanning arm retracts for far field measurements. Orbit/FR's sophisticated measurement software includes algorithms for analyzing the measured data and displaying results required by the automaker and on-board systems' designers. "Orbit/FR foresees the new AAMS system as becoming the standard in the automotive industry worldwide," said Jeff Polan, chief technology officer, Orbit/FR, Inc. "Consumer demand is driving the automotive manufacturers to offer increasingly complex onboard and wireless systems -- each demanding uncompromised radio frequency performance when integrated into the vehicle. Anticipating the need of auto manufacturers to test these systems, Orbit is positioning itself as the industry standard solution." ORBIT/FR is currently in the process of installing this system for several European customers. About Orbit/FR, Inc.
