Mazda Reports Strong September Sales Gain

    IRVINE, Calif., Oct. 1 -- Mazda North American Operations
(MNAO) today reported U.S. sales of 20,969 units for the month of September, a
42.5 percent increase over the same period last year.
    All model lines showed significant gains, including the all-new 2000 Mazda
MPV which recorded strong sales for it's first full month of 2,167 units.
    Sales of Mazda's Millenia luxury sport sedan, which now costs less than it
did when it was introduced in 1994, posted a dramatic increase of 260 percent.
    The 626, substantially revised and improved for 2000, had a sales increase
of 35.4 percent, while Protege sales jumped 37.6 percent, B-Series truck sales
rose 35.4 percent and Miata sales increased 8.2 percent.
    Mazda North American Operations is responsible for the sales and
marketing, customer parts and service support of Mazda vehicles in the United
States.  Headquartered in Irvine, Calif., MNAO has more than 750 dealerships
nationwide and is owned by Mazda Motor Corporation, Hiroshima, Japan.
