American Honda Breaks Model Year Sales Record; Topping the One Million Mark for the First Time
TORRANCE, Calif., Oct. 1 -- American Honda reported an
all-time record for model year sales, totaling 1,067,468 cars and light trucks
for the 1999 model year and topping the one million mark in model year sales
for the first time in company history, according to figures released today by
American Honda Motor Co., Inc. The company finished the model year with
best-ever September sales of 91,054 units, up 9.7 percent from last September.
Model year sales highlights include:
-- All-time record Honda Division sales of 950,217, up 6.6 percent from
the '98 model year, with 12 consecutive months of record sales.
-- Total Odyssey minivan sales of 56,027; reflects a 92.5 percent increase
over the previous model year.
-- CR-V sales increased 26 percent over the previous model year to
115,614.
-- Acura TL sales finished the model year with a 111.7 percent increase
totaling 53,685 units.
Honda Division recorded a September sales record of 81,222 units, up
11.8 percent from last September, marking the 30th consecutive record month
for the Division.
American Honda year-to-date sales are up 7.6 percent to 818,932 through
the end of September, putting the company on pace for another calendar year
record in 1999.
