Toyota Reports Best-Ever Third Quarter and September Sales: Posts Sixth Consecutive Monthly Sales Record
TORRANCE, Calif., Oct. 1 -- Toyota Motor Sales (TMS) U.S.A.,
Inc., today reported best-ever September sales of 119,825 vehicles up 10.4
percent over last September's record-setting sales. This is Toyota's
sixth-consecutive month of record-breaking sales, and the seventh since the
beginning of the year.
"Nine months of sustained industry growth has surprised everyone," said
Jim Press, TMS executive vice president. "An explosion of all-time sales
records in the final quarter will close out the millennium with a bang."
Sales for the first three quarters of 1999 totaled 1,101,559, an increase
of 10.5 percent compared to the same period last year. This is the first time
in Toyota's 42-year history in the U.S. that they have eclipsed the
one-million sales mark by the end of the third quarter.

Division posted sales of 106,151 units, up 10.3 percent over last September.

September 1998.

best-ever September for Camry and push CYTD sales to 349,915, a 15.6 percent
increase for the year. Corolla sales also increased for the month, up 2.7
percent, to 19,821.
Total Toyota Division light truck sales rose 19.1 percent, to 42,972, for
a best-ever September. Aiding that increase were sales of the Toyota Tacoma
compact pickup truck which totaled 13,153 units for the month, a 10.2 percent
increase. The Sienna minivan recorded best-ever September sales of 8,292, up
23.7 percent, and the all-new Tundra full-size pickup had another strong month
with sales of 5,699. The Toyota Land Cruiser also had a strong month with

39.0 percent for its RX 300, to 5,520 units, and an increase 2.5 percent for
the LX 470. The Lexus GS 300 performance sedan enjoyed September sales of
2,211, up 44.6 percent.
