Selas Receives $5 Million Order for New U.S. Aluminum FacilityDRESHER, Pa., Oct. 1 -- Selas Corporation of America (Amex: SLS) announced today that it has received an order valued at nearly $5 million for a set of aluminum billet homogenizing furnaces, coolers, and a materials handling system. The contract is with Norsk Hydro Americas Inc., the US parent company of Hydro Aluminum Metal Products, a worldwide supplier of aluminum billet. Stephen F. Ryan, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Selas, said that the equipment will be supplied as part of a $33 million aluminum remelt plant that Hydro is building in Henderson, KY. Selas received the order through its subsidiary CFR in Paris and will execute it jointly with CFR and Selas' engineering and manufacturing facility in Dresher, PA. It is scheduled for completion in late 2000. "This order has added significance to Selas because it underscores our emphasis on bringing CFR furnace technology into the U.S.," Mr. Ryan said. "CFR designs and produces engineered batch and continuous furnaces for heat treating both ferrous and non-ferrous metals including aluminum. It also has a strong niche market in supplying furnaces for the hardening and etching of glass and ceramic tableware. CFR has previously supplied homogenizing furnaces and handling equipment to Hydro in Europe." Hydro's new remelting plant will have an initial annual capacity of 90,000 tons and will utilize state-of-the-art technology proven in Europe. The technology allows production of primary quality aluminum billet from scrap. Selas is a diversified firm with international operations and sales that engages in the design, development, engineering and manufacturing of a range of products including precision medical and electronic products, heat processing equipment and systems, and cable winch products.
