TRACKS: Keith Cowherd dies of injuries suffered at Irwindale Speedway

Irwindale, Calif. - Drivers Keith Cowherd of Phoenix, 
Arizona and Shawn Davidson of Mammoth Lakes, California, were involved in a racing 
accident on the seventh lap of the Speed Truck main event at Irwindale Speedway 
on Saturday night, September 25.   

Both drivers were transported to nearby hospitals.  Despite the best efforts 
of the track's on-site doctor and paramedics, Los Angeles County emergency personnel, 
and the hospital ER team, Cowherd succumbed to massive head injuries at Santa 
Teresita Hospital in Duarte, California at approximately 11:25 p.m. on Saturday 
night.   Davidson was airlifted to Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena, 
treated in the emergency room at that facility and released at approximately 
2:00 a.m. on Sunday morning.

Cowherd, who was 49 years old, leaves a wife, Margaret and three children, Cindy 
age 27, Brian age 25, and Nick age 11.

"Our hearts go out to Keith's family and friends," said speedway general manager 
Robert DeFazio,  "We are all very saddened by this loss."
