Mitsubishi Galant Takes Top Honors in Edmunds.com 'Bread-N-Butter' Comparison Test
Mid-Size Sedan Bests Four Competitors with Style

    CYPRESS, Calif., Sept. 29 -- In a five-car, head-to-head
competition of "bread-n-butter" family sedans, the 1999 Mitsubishi Galant took
home the first-place honors. Edmunds.com, best known for its automotive
consumer information, describes "bread-n-butter" as cars that appeal to the
masses with ample performance and reasonable prices, thereby representing a
great value.

Each vehicle was rated in four areas:

    -- Test track performance numbers
    -- A 30-point top-to-bottom evaluation
    -- An "off-the-cuff" personal preference
-- A value equation based on the "as tested" sticker price.

Edmunds.com named the Galant the "true winner among winners" after four
days of vigorous vehicle evaluations in city traffic, on the highway, on back
roads and on the track. Evaluators particularly praised the Galant's
"Euro-flavored" styling and its smooth, well-balanced handling.
"Galant is a stylish departure from the look-alike, drive-alike mid-size
sedans currently on the market," said Pierre Gagnon, executive vice president
and chief operating officer for Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America, Inc.
(MMSA.) "Team that up with its performance and value, and this comparison
test win shows that Galant truly stands out in a crowd of generic sedans."
The Galant, which was all-new for 1999, offers two powerful engine choices
-- a 145-horsepower 2.4-liter 4-cylinder (140-horsepower with CA/NLEV
emissions) or a 195-horsepower 3.0-liter V6 (190-horsepower with CA/NLEV
emissions). With a suspension tuned for precise handling, it has the
performance to back its sleek appearance.
Galant models M.S.R.P. for the 2000 model year range from $17,245 for the
4-cylinder DE to $24,875 for the sporty, V6-equipped GTZ (including
destination/handling).
