CANNONBALL CLASSIC: The Auto Channel joins the Classic
29 September 1999

There cannot be a single solitary reader of The Auto Channel who has not heard of the various Cannonball runs or of the two movies based on them. The very last totally, beautifully and undeniably illegal one was run in 1979, just 20 years ago. Yours truly came last but as the inscription on the trophy said-not lost!
Now, 20 years and lots of political correctness later (by the way we did not hurt a single soul in 1979 if you discount ten thousand flies..) the event, the Classic has to be seen to be 100 per cent legal but I have a feeling that-knowing Cannonball founder Brock Yates and his team- it will still be a lot of fun.
Furthermore you can meet us along the way! There will be a number of stops and Autochannel readers are more than welcome to come and have a chat at the various locations.
The Ferrari 365 2+2 which I will be sharing with Canadian friends should arrive round about 6 p.m. in the evening, a good time for a beer and a chat. The car will of course carry the rather distinctive Auto Channel logo so you should have no problems finding us.
The various stops are:
1.The Radisson in Scranton, PA, on Sunday 26th Sept 2. The Westin in Southfield, MI on 27th 3.The Renaissance in St Louis, MO on 28th 4.The Cornhusker in Lincoln, NE on 29th 5.The Lodge in Steamboat Springs, CO on 30th 6. The Best Western in Eureka, NVand finally on Saturday, October 2nd the legendary Portofino Inn, Redondo Beach,CA.
There will be lots of interesting cars to see and also a chance to meet Brock Yates, probably the best automotive journalist and car nut in the World.
