I-Sim Awarded Driving Simulator Contract for Fresno Police Department
SALT LAKE CITY, Sept. 28 -- I-Sim(R) Corporation, a leading
developer and manufacturer of driving-simulation equipment, today announced it
has signed an agreement with the Fresno Police Department to construct four
PatrolSim(TM) driving simulators for the department. The systems will be
installed and ready for training in mid-November.
The PatrolSim Driving Simulator utilizes I-Sim's state-of-the-art
simulation technology, providing a highly realistic and immersive training
environment. The open-seat driving station incorporates I-Sim's vehicle
dynamics, preset and user-programmable traffic scenarios, and sophisticated
road surface software to ensure a true-to-life experience for drivers of all
abilities.
I-Sim was approved by the Commission of Police Officer Standards and
Training (POST) to be a driving simulator provider for California. By
exceeding the standards set by POST for simulator-based training, I-Sim now
qualifies as a preferred vendor for police, emergency vehicle and municipal
agencies throughout the state of California.
"We were looking for a way to stretch our capabilities and provide
advanced training without putting our officers or equipment at risk," said
Sergeant Michael Reid of the Fresno Police Department. "We found our solution
with I-Sim. Their team has created a quality simulator that offers the
options and clarity of scenarios we need."
According to Sergeant Michael Reid, the Fresno Police Department has
remodeled an area in the facility's basement to allow for the training
expansion. The four I-Sim simulators will be used to augment the department's
drivers' training courses.
"We look forward to working with the Fresno Police Department," said
Reginald Welles, president and CEO of I-Sim. "We feel their selection of the
PatrolSim driving simulators reaffirms the high standards of quality we put
into our systems."
With a team of more than 800 sworn officers, the Fresno Police Department
services approximately 470,000 people in a 100-square-mile area. Ed
Winchester, chief of police, and Sharon Shaffer, commander of the management
support bureau, have headed up the simulator project for the department.
