Audi's Broadest-Ever Offering of Luxury and Performance Cars
25 September 1999
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- With model year 2000 Audis arriving in showrooms, Audi of America, Inc. has announced model year 2000 pricing on its broadest product line ever. For 2000, Audi is offering its TT Coupe sports car in both front wheel drive and quattro versions; five A4 variants including the new, blisteringly fast S4; a total of four A6 models ranging from the daringly beautiful A6 2.8 sedan and Avant with 200 horsepower to the ultimate A6 -- the longer, lower, leaner, meaner A6 4.2 with 300 horsepower; and Audi's all-aluminum flagship, the Audi A8. As you would expect from Audi, its legendary quattro all wheel drive is either available or standard on every model in its range. New additions for 2000 include the pure German sports car, the TT Coupe which has been on sale since May. The S4 now tops the A4 range with its special bodywork and its aggressive 2.7 liter biturbo engine which launches drivers to 60 miles per hour in 5.9 seconds. The A6 range has been expanded this year with the addition of two new models, the 250 horsepower A6 2.7 T and the 300 horsepower A6 4.2. Audi's top of the line A8 has also received significant updates both inside and out to offer the driver more comfort and better performance. While base prices for the 2000 model year have increased slightly over the same models in 1999 (an average of $195 or 0.9%), enhanced standard equipment across the line means that there is an overall 1.5% price reduction when compared to last year. Moreover, Audi's new models have been priced to compete effectively with their primary competitors, maintaining Audi's price-value relationship. Introduced in May as a 2000 model year, the TT Coupe has a base MSRP of $30,500 including its standard Valcona leather interior. Now, for an additional $1,750, TT buyers can opt for quattro in place of the standard front wheel drive. Audi's best selling model range, the A4 sedans and Avants, incorporate a number of updates for the 2000 model year. Standard equipment on A4 2.8s now includes a new generation stereo cassette radio with single CD player in dash, trip computer, power passenger seat, and full-size spare with alloy wheel (sedan only). A4 2.8 base MSRP is increased only $400 to $28,790, resulting in an equipment-adjusted price reduction of 2%. A4 2.8 Avant with its standard quattro system increased $500 to $31,540. The A4 1.8 T also received many of these upgrades including the new generation stereo cassette radio including a single CD player in dash, trip computer, and full-size spare with alloy wheel (sedan only). The A4 1.8 T MSRP increases only $200 to $23,990, resulting in an equipment adjusted price decrease of 2 %. A4 1.8 T Avant with its standard quattro system increased $300 to $26,740. New this year, the 250 hp biturbo S4 with standard quattro all-wheel drive, silk Nappa leather interior, 17-inch "Avus" alloy wheels and 225/45 R17 performance tires, power seats, HP2 4-piston front brakes, sport suspension and more is $37,900. The toughest choice may be selecting between the six-speed manual transmission or the five-speed automatic with Tiptronic at no extra charge. The daringly beautiful 2000 A6 2.8 benefits from powertrain alterations which enhance its off the line acceleration. 16-inch alloy wheels and tires are now standard along with the new generation stereo cassette radio including its in-dash CD player. A full size spare with alloy wheel now comes in the sedan as well. Price of the A6 2.8 was increased only $200 to $33,950, resulting in an equipment adjusted price reduction of 1.3% on the sedan. For those who want to be more in touch with the driving experience, a 5-speed manual is now also available only on the A6 2.8 sedan with quattro at no extra charge. The A6 Avant also receives the 16" wheel and tire upgrade and in-dash CD stereo cassette. The A6 Avant quattro MSRP increased $300 to $36,900. The A6 2.8 remains the foundation of the A6 line-up and it is expected to comprise 50%+ of the model line sales. With 250 horsepower on tap, the A6 2.7 T biturbo sedan will offer notably superior performance and standard quattro at a very attractive price: $38,550. Like the S4, it is available with a six-speed manual transmission or the five-speed automatic with Tiptronic at no extra charge. For the ultimate A6 driving experience, customers can select the new for 2000 A6 4.2. Delivering 300 hp, this luxury grand touring car offers a host of standard features including quattro all wheel drive, full leather upholstery, power sunroof, Bose(R) premium sound system, a five-speed automatic transmission with Tiptronic and much more for a base MSRP of $48,900. Until now, such a driving experience could not be found at a comparable price point. Befitting its position as a "breakthrough luxury" flagship, the 2000 A8 integrates substantial interior and exterior improvements. It all starts with a new five-valve per cylinder 4.2 liter V8 engine producing 310 horsepower and 302 lbs. ft. of torque. On the exterior a revised front bumper, grille and headlights give the A8 a new bolder face; larger door handles make entry easier than ever. On the interior, a new headliner, revised instrument cluster with electroluminescent lighting, new interior ambient lighting and more make this the most well appointed A8 ever. The A8 is also available with a softer, plusher-looking "Comfort" seat in a premium comfort package (PAW) which includes heated front and rear seats and ski sack. The standard equipment level has also been enhanced with the addition of "SIDEGUARD" inflatable curtain airbags, a Homelink transmitter, full size spare with alloy wheel, new generation stereo cassette radio with in-dash CD player (200 watt BOSE(R) and CD changer in trunk remain standard as well), audio controls on the steering wheel, rear seat power lumbar support and power headrests and auto dimming outside mirrors. Despite these significant upgrades, MSRP is reduced to $62,000, an equipment adjusted price decrease of 7.4%. In terms of new equipment, a user friendly navigation system is available on A4, A6, and A8 incorporating voice directional instructions in addition to the instrument panel display. The MSRP of $1,280 includes one map CD. Other new items include "SIDEGUARD" inflatable curtain head protection air bags, an acoustic parking assist system on A6 and A8 and Electronic Stability program (ESP) on the A6 4.2 and A8 (delayed availability). Steering wheel audio controls have been added to the convenience package on the A6. The Bose premium sound system is now available separately from the 6-disc changer (excluding TT). Audi's legendary quattro all wheel drive is a $1,750 option for 2000 on those models where it is not standard equipment. Full option pricing is available on the attached price sheets. As announced with the launch of the 2000 TT, the destination charge on all 2000 MY Audis is $525.
