Hyundai Sells Two Millionth Car Ahead of Anticipated Schedule

Hyundai Motor America Sells Two Millionth Car Ahead of Anticipated Schedule; Hyundai Bucks Truck Trend as Its Car Sales Continue to Climb
FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., Sept. 24 -- A millennium celebration
will come early for Hyundai Motor America (HMA) as it announces the sale of
its two millionth car in the U.S. HMA expected to sell its two millionth car
before year-end, but rapidly climbing sales led to the two millionth car being
sold much earlier than anticipated.
Although truck and sport utility vehicle sales are soaring, Hyundai's
passenger car-only sales steadily increased throughout the year, bucking the
national trend. Sales in August were up 81 percent and year-to-date sales up
more than 66 percent over the same period last year.
"Hyundai's sales continued to climb this year as more and more consumers
recognize that we offer attractive prices and high quality, as well as The
Hyundai Advantage, America's Best Warranty, which includes a 10-year,
100,000-mile drivetrain warranty and a five-year, unlimited mileage roadside
assistance program," said Robert Cosmai, Hyundai Motor America's vice
president of sales. "Last month was the best sales month in the history of
the Elantra model, so it's only fitting that our two millionth car sold is an
Elantra."

    Shhh! It's a Surprise
Fairfax Hyundai in Fairfax, Virginia sold the two millionth vehicle -- a
green Hyundai Elantra GLS Wagon -- to an unsuspecting customer, who was told
that the car he purchased would be detailed, prepped and ready for pick-up on
Wednesday, Sept. 29. That day, the customer will be surprised by a special
dealer celebration featuring a luncheon with many distinguished guests, during
which the owner will be awarded a free trip for two to Las Vegas to attend
Hyundai's annual dealer meetings in October. The owner will also receive a
10-year, 100,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty and a Custom Gold Package for
his new 2000 model Elantra GLS Station Wagon.
"I am thrilled that Fairfax Hyundai sold Hyundai's two millionth vehicle,"
said Don Reilly, owner of Fairfax Hyundai. "As the all-time, number one U.S.
sales volume leader, we have sold approximately 16,500 Hyundais over the
years, and it's exciting to share this company-wide historical event with the
community that helped us achieve this milestone."
The celebration begins at 11:30 a.m. and will be open to invited guests,
as well as media, and feature the two millionth vehicle presentation and a
buffet luncheon.
Fairfax Hyundai is located at 10595 Warwick Avenue in Fairfax, Virginia
and has been owned and operated by Don Reilly since 1986, when Hyundai was
first introduced to the U.S. market.

Hyundai Motor America, based in Fountain Valley, Calif., is a subsidiary
of Hyundai Motor Company of Korea. Hyundai cars are distributed in the United
States by Hyundai Motor America and are sold and serviced through nearly
500 dealerships nationwide.
